So...apparently I'm a walking barometer...
...or at least that's what they tell me...and by they, I mean some of my professors and ensemble directors. You know how old people complain that when it rains their joints hurt? Well, I can sympathize, because apparently I'm an 80 year old trapped in the body of someone a quarter of that age! As soon as I got back to Victoria, my hip started bothering me, but the only explanation I have for this is the climate. So, now they call me the barometer and constantly ask me whether or not it's going to rain or not. At least I have some sort of special ability.
As for reading break, it was great to be home. The first weekend was spent in Vancouver though, at a music education conference called Upbeat 2006. It was great to go to clinics, do volunteer work, hear the provincial honour ensembles, and get a whole lot of free stuff...the free stuff was one of my favourite parts. Then, I flew out of Van on the Sunday and arrived in Calgary in the mid-afternoon. It was great to take it easy for the week, even though I did still get some homework and practicing done.
On Tuesday night, Kristen abducted me and we ventured to Peter's Drive In, laughing the entire way there. After paying exact change, in quarters in fact...we devoured our milkshakes and headed to the Boyd house to visit Steve. I got my ab workout for the entire week just laughing with him and Kristen!
On Friday, we wend to Wildwood for a family lunch, which was FANTASTIC...the food was great, and it was a really nice restaurant to go to...and for those who are unafraid of trying new things, I highly reccommend the warm pistachio cake for dessert. It has a different texture, but it was DELICIOUS!!
Friday night was coined "Girls' movie night...plus Steve", and it was exactly that. Drinking wine, eating popcorn, and talking through both movies. Our efforts to watch the Terminal and How to Lose a Guy in 10 days (obviously our choices and not Steve's) were foiled by our social mingling abilities. It was good to see Kristen, Sarah, and Steve one last time before heading back to finish the semester.
Unfortunately, Saturday was spent at the hospital, as Sabrina was diagnosed with Diabetes that morning. She wants to throw a party for herself though...at least she said so sarcastically a couple times...maybe it was the drugs...but if anyone wants to come and bring Splenda cake, let me know!! Haha! Anyways...she's home now....away from her hospital roomate who was so old, he could have bit the bullet at any moment. I'm sure she'll be able to get much better sleep when she's not being poked and prodded every hour so that they can prick her fingers and test her blood sugar levels!
Anyways...now I'm back on the island...in what feels colder than Calgary's weather...I know it's not, but because of the wind and the humidity, it chills me to the bone. However, I'm keeping busy, and getting lots of homework and practicing done.
However, I must get going...I stayed up last night writing a paper, and only slept about 2 hours, so I'm going to go to bed now, so I can be nice and chipper to work at Bandfest (our student run band festivaly here at UVic) tomorrow. YAY for having to deal with bratty middle school band kids...just kidding...I thrive on excitement like this!
G'night!
