Things are looking up...

Well, after weeks of stress, my NYO audition is finally over, and I am definitely pleased with how I played. Other than Firebird (which is SO hard, everyone said they crapped all over it), I felt great about all the excerpts, especially the bass clarinet ones. In addition, the sun has finally broken through the clouds for at least part of the last couple of days, and my mood seems to be improving as a result. Overall, this weekend has been fantastic. For pretty much the first time this semester, I'm really glad to be here. Plus, I mean, it could be worse...there could be dead snakes on the sidewalk, right Kristen?? haha

Last night was a FREAKIN' blast!! After my audition, my initial plans of staying in for the night and doing homework were thrown out the window, and instead we celebrated over dinner at Earls. I've never seen a server with so much energy...it was almost obnoxious...but you could tell she enjoyed her job, and I suppose enthusiasm is an important thing in the food service industry. After dinner, we decided we'd make an appearance at a party being held at Amanda, Justin, Kaile, Stu, and Sabrina's (not my sister) house. So, we waited for a bus...for a while, since buses here seem to hate us when we have somewhere we want to go...as a UVic student, one of the most important lessons I've learned, is to carry the bus schedule book with you AT ALL TIMES!! So, 2 buses and a 10 or 15 minute walk later, we finally arrived at the house, and were greeted by a houseful of drunks...maybe not DRUNK drunk, but some were quite intoxicated by the time we made it there. I was mauled by one of my fellow clarinet players, Stephanie, who told me I was her favourite, and kept hugging me, and wouldn't let go of me for about 20 minutes. Instant ego boost, I guess! However, as soon as Alex showed up, she had no interest in me, and apparently her tongue had a date with his throat...a three hour date actually! And then, two other clarinet players were also making out with people at the party...way to give us clarinet players a bad name!! haha

I've decided though, that drunks are fun, and that I would much rather be sober and make fun of them, then to be drinking, and miss out on noticing some of the crazy (or stupid) things that they do or say. Take Tom for instance. Tom is nice guy who plays the trumpet. He has a really nice girlfriend, who is not in the music school, but does go to UVic. Tom is pretty quiet at school and mainly hangs out with his circle of friends. I talk to him sometimes in MUS 301, but not a whole lot. Get him drinking, and things change. He's a social butterfly when he's drinking. If you say to him, "Tom, you're a great guy with great skills," you'd better be in for some flattering comments back. For instance, he told me that, quote, "Jacqui, if I wasn't involved, I'd do you right now!" WOW! What do you say to that...I mean, I'm not saying that it wasn't flattering, but it was just shocking to hear from Tom, who at school would never say such a thing. So, then Steve, mocking Tom a little bit, said, quote, "Ya Jacqui, you could make so much wood that Tom Sawyer could float down the Mississippi!" HOW DO PEOPLE THINK OF THESE THINGS??? Anyways, I spent most of my night laughing, and having a great time last night! I don't get out to parties very often, but this one was definitely among my favourites! Plus, I got to see Toby hit on Dave, which was clearly a sight to be seen!

So, ya...things seem to be looking up. Now that the NYO audition is over with, I feel much more at ease, and able to focus on the bigger picture...and on another good note, my hip is feeling much better...the pain still flares up sometimes, but overall, I'm feeling great. I bought a gym pass and started going there to use the eliptical, stairclimber and rowing machines. It's less impact on my hip, so I can still keep in shape without hurting myself...which is a good thing!

Well, I suppose I should get going...papers don't write themselves!!
